BEREA -- Browns rookie running back Trent Richardson is practicing for the first time since undergoing knee surgery on Aug. 9, raising the likelihood he will play in Sunday's season opener against Philadelphia.

Richardson had a sleeve on his left knee Monday as the Browns continued preparing for the Eagles.

Richardson, the No. 3 overall pick in April's draft, had not been on the field since having his second arthroscopic knee operation since leading Alabama to a national championship in January.

On Saturday, Browns coach Pat Shurmur said if Richardson can practice, he will play Sunday. Shurmur pulled Richardson close for a brief chat during one drill as the Browns' running backs caught passes.

Moments later, running backs coach Gary Brown called out a play and quizzed Richardson on his assignment.
