CLEVELAND -- This time of year, teachers and students often get stressed out over testing.
So what advice are schools and doctors giving families to make sure students are at their best for the testing that started this week?
Here are some tips from Dr. Ellen Rome, a pediatrician at the Cleveland Clinic.
- Unplug an hour before you want to get to sleep, having that phone or Ipad even in your room can mean disruptive beeps/vibrations that can keep some one out of a full sleep cycle. Keep the electronics out of the bedroom.
- Cut out the caffeine. And for those who have to have their morning dose, keep it at that. It is a 24-hour lasting drug- so caffeine by afternoon can keep you from sleeping at night.
- Schools are recommending 8 to 10 hours of sleep.
- If a question is too hard, go on to the next one, and then cycle back when you have more time.
- For breakfast, eat something with carbs, protein and fat, such as yogurt with granola and a banana, or peanut butter toast, to keep your energy level consistent all morning.
