AKRON -- His name alone -- William Bennett -- causes several Akron families to catch their breath, even a decade after he committed his crimes.
Bennett recently launched a Facebook profile under the name "William He Is" even though the popular social media website prohibits sex offenders from participating.
A viewer who received a 'friend' request from Bennett contacted Channel 3 News out of concern that he was active on Facebook.
Three years ago, Bennett launched a similar profile using his real name, but Facebook disabled it after Channel 3 News launched an investigation. WKYC notified Facebook about the new profile Monday afternoon.
Bennett served 14 months in prison for sexual battery involving six boys at an Akron high school where Bennett worked as a counselor.
Sheriff's deputies confirm Bennett is a registered Sex Predator -- the most serious classification -- but is no longer on probation or parole so he is not limited from being on the Internet. Court records indicate Bennett's probation ended in 2005.
