COLUMBUS -- The Ohio Department of Health has launched new beach safety web site so swimmers can check for bacteria and algae advisories before they head to the water.
The site collects information from 62 monitored beaches on Lake Erie and inland state parks.
Money from a U.S. EPA BEACHES grant helped fund the site development.
Between Memorial Day and Labor Day selected beaches are sampled for E.coli bacteria to determine potential pollution levels for swimmers.
If samples are greater than a U.S. EPA standard a swimming advisory is posted until a sample is returned below the U.S. EPA standard.
