Patrick Coyle, a logistics specialist hired by the Cleveland-Cuyahoga County Port Authority to help transform the Lake Erie docks into an international center of commerce, resigned Oct. 10 after just three months on the job.
He sent his resignation letter to Wasserman.
Friday's statement continues:
"The resignation comes as part of a mutual agreement by the board and Wasserman that a change in leadership at the Port Authority is appropriate at this time.
A national search for a new CEO will begin immediately.
Under the guidance of the Board, Chief Financial Officer Brent Leslie will oversee day-to-day operations until a new CEO is in place. The Board thanks Wasserman for his important contributions to the organization, including helping to implement the 2007 Strategic Plan and gain support for the new port location at East 55th Street.
The Port will continue to build on its momentum in advancing its mission to improve the economic health of the region and its residents.
Initiatives to develop a world-class waterfront, grow maritime business and relocate the Port while creating a significant number of new jobs for Cleveland and the region will continue unabated during the transition and under new leadership."
