Officials say it appears that some harp wire in front of the clouded leopard exhibit broke and the animal was able to exit its exhibit.
Once outside the exhibit, the clouded leopard worked at trying to get back into his exhibit but was unsuccessful. No one was injured or in danger during the incident, officials said.
The exhibit is on the second floor of The RainForest.
The Zoo's Animal Care and Veterinary Services staff immediately responded to secure the clouded leopard and tranquilize him so he could be moved to an off-exhibit holding area.
Late Friday, the clouded leopard was awakening and appears to be doing well.
The clouded leopard exhibit, as well as three other RainForest exhibits using harp wire, are being inspected and repaired/replaced as necessary.
