Rokakis said he made the requests over concerns following Friday's charges against Cuyahoga County Auditor Frank Russo's top aide, Sandy Klimkowski.

Klimkowski, 58, of Maple Heights, resigned her county position Thursday and was charged Friday with using her position there and as a Maple Heights school board member "to enrich herself financially," prosecutors with the U.S. Attorney's office said.

Rokakis said he asked for the state investigation to determine if there was interference in appraisals performed by a private contractor, V.A.S. Enterprises.

Channel 3 News The Investigator Tom Meyer broke the Klimkowski story Friday morning on wkyc.com.

Meyer reported that federal authorities who have been probing Cuyahoga County corruption allege that Klimkowski delivered $1.2 million in kickbacks to "Public Official 2," widely accepted to be Russo in multiple documents filed in the probe, and also taking $154,000 herself.

Russo has not been named or charged in the probe and maintains his innocence.

On Friday, Cuyahoga County Commissioners Peter Lawson Jones and Tim Hagan, as well as Lakewood Mayor Ed FitzGerald, publicly called on Russo to resign as a result of these latest developments.
