Kent: Franklin Township bank robber caught, jailed

KENT -- Portage County Sheriff David W. Doak has arrested Andrew G. Knechtle, 25, with a last known address of Brady Street.

On Thursday, an armed robbery occurred at the First Merit Bank located at 1729 E. Main Street in Franklin Township in Portage County.

At approximately 3:45 p.m., a man entered the bank and indicated that he was armed with a gun. He ran off on foot with an undisclosed amount of money.

During the follow up investigation, Knechtle was identified as a person of interest. Detectives were able to locate Knechtle and he has been cooperating in the investigation.

Knechtle has been charged with aggravated robbery and is currently being held at the Portage County Jail with no bond.

He will be arraigned at the Portage County Courthouse at 1:15 p.m. Wednesday.
