MANSFIELD, Ohio -- Prosecutors have two weeks to decide whether to try an inmate who was allowed to withdraw a 20-year-old guilty plea to a northern Ohio man's murder.
A Richland County judge ruled Wednesday that Glen Tinney, 50, could withdraw his 1992 guilty plea to the murder of 33-year-old Ted White of Mansfield.
Tinney confessed to the 1988 beating of White, who died from head injuries.
Ohio Innocence Project officials say Tinney is innocent.
They have worked to free him since Mansfield police asked them in 2006 to look into the case. Police believe another man killed White.
The judge said he wasn't determining whether Tinney was innocent. But he said mental illness played a role in the decision to confess.
Prosecutors can appeal. They didn't immediately return a call Thursday.
