MARGARETTA TOWNSHIP -- The Ohio Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal crash that occurred on Old Railroad Road at Miller Road in Erie County.

Troopers currently do not have a time of the crash but they were called to the scene at 7:29 a.m. Thursday.

The driver, Timothy W. Wright Jr., 34, of Castalia, was driving a 2004 Infinity I35 southbound on Old Railroad Road approaching the T-intersection with Miller Road.

Wright failed stop at the posted stop sign, crossed Miller Road, and became airborne for approximately 100 feet, striking an overhead branch on a small tree located on private property and landed in a yard.

From there Wright's car continued southbound through the yard, through a creek, and struck a tree.

Wright was not wearing a seat belt and the driver's side air bag deployed in the crash but the front air bag did not deploy.

Firefighters had to use the Jaws of Life to remove Wright from the vehicle and his body was taken to the Ransom Funeral Home in Castalia, Ohio.  The vehicle was towed to Moore's Body Shop in Castalia by Fast Times Towing.

The crash remains under investigation at this time.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Erie County Sheriff's Department, the Margaretta Township Fire Department, Fast Times Towing, and Ransom Funeral Home.
