WAYNESVILLE, Ohio -- Authorities say emergency crews practicing water rescues put that training to use to help a pair of kayakers who became stranded nearby amid the swift currents of the Little Miami River in southwest Ohio.

WHIO-TV in Dayton reports two women kayaking near Waynesville became stuck in high water amid some trees Sunday.

Assistant Chief Jeff Patton of the Wayne Township Fire Department says emergency responders training for water rescues were on a lunch break when they heard the women screaming for help.

They were less than a mile away, and the emergency crews were able to get the women safely back on land within 20 minutes.

No injuries were reported.
