STOW -- Police are asking for the public's help in finding the person responsible with shooting a flare through an apartment window on July 4.

Authorities say it was around 11:20 p.m. when a woman returned to her apartment in the 1400 block of Mac Drive and noticed her front window was broken.

Believing a burglary had taken place, the woman called police.

Upon arrival, the responding officer noticed her apartment was filling with smoke. Once inside, the officer worked to extinguish a fire, which was burning inside a basket filled with clothes.

An investigation of the scene revealed somebody had fired a flare gun at close range to the apartment, sending the flare inside the apartment.

No injuries were reported and the damage was contained to a single apartment.

The woman was relocated to a nearby hotel due to heavy smoke damage.

Anybody with information is asked to contact the Stow Police Department Detective Bureau at 330-689-5731 or CrimeStoppers at 330-434-2677. A $2,000 reward is being offered for any tip that results in an arrest.
