EASTLAKE -- Retired police officer, security guard catch thief who ran out of Walmart without paying for golf balls.
Wednesday afternoon, police say a "golf enthusiast" tried to steal $119.58 worth of golf balls from Walmart.
When he was confronted by loss prevention guards, he ran out of the store at the same time as a retired Eastlake police officer was walking in.
Both the guard and the retired officer chased the Mentor man, 26, and caught him. They held him until Eastlake police arrived.
He was charged with theft.
Police said because Walmart has an aggressive Loss Prevention Team, that's why there are so many arrests at this store.
