WESTLAKE -- A Westlake man was arrested and charged for threatening to kill his wife and burn their house down with her in it.

Police say David Huffman, 55, of Columbia Road, was arrested just after 7 p.m. Dec. 3 after he had nailed a door shut on his house in an attempt to keep his wife, Joyce, 57, from leaving.

He also threatened to kill her and burn down the house.

Rocky River Municipal Court Judge Brian Hagan has already signed a temporary protection order against the defendant.

Police removed six rifles of varying calibers, one shotgun, and a .40 caliber, semi-auto handgun from the house.

The TPO also requires him to stay 500 feet away from his wife wherever she is and required him to reveal the combination to the safe in the home so she could gain access to $17,000 in the safe.

Huffman fought with the three arresting officers and kicked one officer in the leg.

Huffman was arrested and charged with domestic violence, unlawful restraint, resisting arrest and three counts of assault on a police officer.

He is scheduled to appear in Rocky River Municipal Court for arraignment at 9 a.m. Wednesday.
