AKRON - A man armed with a gun robbed an Akron couple as they sat in their garage enjoying the morning sunshine.

According to a police release, the man ordered the couple, both 74, into their North Firestone Boulevard home and threatened to kill them if they didn't hand over jewelry, including the wife's wedding ring, and the keys to their minivan.

About 20 minutes after police broadcast details on the man they were looking for, an officer on another call found the minivan in a parking lot at the corner of Crosby and Gayle streets.

Police say they recovered the jewelry including the wife's wedding ring along with the gun.

Dwand T. Hammett, 33, has been charged with aggravated robbery and kidnapping.
