Kent State Police investigate student robbery report

KENT -- Campus police are investigating after a student reported being robbed.

According to a release from Kent State Police, the robbery happened on September 15 between 1:30 a.m. and 2:30 a.m. on or near the western portion of campus.

The male student suffered injuries consistent with assault and reported some personal items as stolen. The student made the report to police on September 20.

Campus police say they will continue to have a patrol presence in the area.

The university offers security aides to provide escorts across campus each night from 8 p.m. and 4 a.m. The campus also has phones outdoors for emergency and non-emergency use.

In addition to all the security measures provided by the campus, Kent State police are encouraging the students and staff to take simple, common sense precautions including:

• Find safety in numbers, practice walking with a companion or in groups at night;
• Keep the doors of residences, offices and automobiles locked;
• Mark your valuables with a personal identification number in case of loss or theft;
• Have your keys ready when walking across parking lots and watch for any suspicious person or activities;
• Never leave your keys unattended in the car ignition; and
• Lock all valuables such as mobile devices, laptops, cameras, book bags, briefcases and textbooks in the trunk.
