AKRON -- An alleged cigarette swiping has landed one man behind bars.

Akron Police say it was shortly after 3 a.m. Wednesday when officers responded to an alarm at the GetGo gas station located at 488 East Waterloo Road.

When they arrived, officers say the front door was forced open and numerous cartons of cigarettes were missing.

As authorities searched the area for possible suspects, officers saw a dark blue Chevrolet Caprice at Hammel Street and Palmetto Avenue.

Police say the vehicle's driver pulled the car over to the side of the road before he and a passenger got out and ran off.

After a brief chase, the passenger, Michael Robinson, 42, of Euclid, was arrested and booked into the Summit County Jail.

He has been charged with breaking and entering, receiving stolen property, possession of criminal tools and obstructing official business.

The driver escaped.

Akron Police say the cartons of missing cigarettes were recovered from the back seat of the vehicle, which was also previously reported as stolen.

Anybody with information connected to the incident is asked to call Akron Police.
