Cuyahoga County Executive Ed FitzGerald says the ongoing government shutdown is being felt here in Cuyahoga County by hard-working individuals and families.

"This is no way to run a government," said FitzGerald,

Among the impacts being felt here by employers and agencies, according to FitzGerald:

NASA Glenn among the hardest hit local employers

1800 National Guard employees are on unpaid leave

Social Security and Veterans Administration will soon have claims processing delayed

7500 VA workers have been furloughed including some in Cuyahoga County

Small business loan applications delayed

FitzGerald also says the WIC program that provides care and nutrition to low-income mothers and infants is in jeopardy of running out of funding if the shutdown continues.

But several state lawmakers are already taking steps to make sure the programs benefits continue.

Rep. Dan Ramos (D-Lorain), Rep. John Rogers (D-Mentor-on-the-Lake) and Rep. Nickie Antonio (D-Lakewood) have introduced legislation that would authorize the state to temporarily fund the program.

More than 260,000 women and children are served by the WIC program each year.
