CLEVELAND -- The Cleveland Police Patrolman's Association endorses in both the Cuyahoga County Executive race and the Cleveland mayoral race.

The CPPA endorsed former Cuyahoga County Sheriff/former Bedford city manager Bob Reid in the county executive race and Cleveland businessman Ken Lanci in the Cleveland mayoral race.

CPPA President Jeffrey Follmer said the vote was unanimous to endorse Lanci.

The CPPA has been at odds with Cleveland Police Chief Michael McGrath and Jackson over their stance in the handling of the Nov. 29 deadly police pursuit that ended with the shooting deaths of two unarmed civilians.

The CPPA has gone so far as to call for McGrath's resignation for his lack of support for the rank-and-file.

Lanci, in a recent speech, said that, if he were mayor, both McGrath and Cleveland's Director of Public Safety Marty Flask would be fired.

The CPPA cited Reid's long career in law enforcement, his knowledge of county government and his experience as the city manager of Bedford for endorsing him.

Reid faces State Rep. Armond Budish and State Sen. Shirley Smith in the May 6 Democratic primary.
