CLEVELAND -- The drunk driving trial of Cleveland City Councilman Zack Reed got underway in earnest Friday as the jury began hearing testimony.

Judge Larry Allen, a retired judge from Willoughby Municipal Court, will decide whether Reed is guilty of four additional, minor traffic charges.

The prosecution presented its case Friday and concluded late in the day. The defense will present its case starting Monday.

Reed was stopped and arrested back in March in downtown Cleveland.

It is the third time Reed has been charged with a DUI.

He was convicted of driving under the influence in 2005 and 2008.

Reed was arrested March 5 at the intersection of East 9th Street and Rockwell Avenue after he failed to stop at a red light and made an improper turn. He refused to take a breath test.

Reed said that his use of Listerine is what officers smelled.
