Most people figure Mayor Frank Jackson is a shoe-in to be reelected.

But others think it's healthy to have a meaningful campaign that forces a favored incumbent to defend his record and discuss new ideas.

Businessman Ken Lanci has now turned in his signatures and, so far, is the only announced candidate against Jackson.

Lanci was born in Cleveland. He's lived in Gates Mills and Brecksville and now has a residence in Cleveland.

He argues Mayor Jackson's stewardship has been a failure on quality of life issues offering statistics on school performance crime and poverty to make his case.

What's his position on the School Transformation plan?

What are his thoughts on the mayor's handling of the November police chase and shooting?]

How does he think candidate perceived as a rich man from the suburbs can connect with ordinary Clevelanders?

How has past death and back experience influenced his motivation?

Tom Beres, Cuyahoga County Democratic Vice Chairman Blaine Griffin and Plain Dealer Columnist interview Lanci about these questions on this edition of Between the Lines.
