PAINESVILLE -- There are multiple reports that Republican Congressman Steve LaTourette will announce Tuesday that he is not seeking re-election.

The Columbus Dispatch and Politico are both reporting LaTourette will retire.

LaTourette has a 10 a.m. Tuesday morning press conference to deliver what's called an "important" announcement.

His press secretary Deb Setliff is issuing "no comments" about the reports.

The former Lake County Prosecutor has been in Congress since 1994. He has a reputation as being more of a moderate and being frustrated with partisan gridlock now gripping Congress.

The timing of his announcement leaves Republicans scrambling to pick a candidate for November.

LaTourette would have been a big favorite to win.

The Democratic candidate is Dale Blanchard, a Solon Ohio accountant.

Many Cleveland and Cuyahoga County officials say this would be a great loss because Rep. La Tourette played a significant role in many project and initiatives outside of his district.

Sources tell Channel 3 News that other possible candidates to run in place of LaTourette could be Geauga County Prosecutor David Joyce, former state lawmaker & Between The Lines commentator Matt Dolan, and U.S. Marshal Peter Elliott.
