AKRON -- Without ruling on defense attorneys' motion to delay the trial until Thursday (Feb. 23), U.S. District Judge Sara Lioi continued with the trial Tuesday morning.

At 9:40 a.m. Tuesday, federal prosecutors officially rested their case against former Cuyahoga County Commissioner Jimmy Dimora and former county auditor employee Michael Gabor.

Dimora's defense attorneys called their first witness Deborah Shaw, currently a space planner for Cuyahoga County.

There was no discussion of the defense's motion to delay the trial until Thursday. That motion was made late Monday by Dimora's attorneys.

Dimora, 56, of Independence, has been charged with 36 counts, including bribery, racketeering and conspiracy. Gabor, 52, of Parma, has been charged with seven counts of bribery and conspiracy.

Both have pleaded not guilty.
