AKRON -- Star government witness J. Kevin Kelley was taken from the Akron federal courthouse in an ambulance Tuesday morning.
Kelley had just finished about 90 minutes of morning testimony against his former friend, Jimmy Dimora, but failed to return to the witness stand following a morning break.
Sources at the U.S. District Courthouse told WKYC that Kelley became ill. An ambulance was seen racing from the courthouse a few minutes later.
Kelley testified Monday that he suffers from a variety of ailments and takes 21 pills a day. The nature of his sudden illness was not known, but courthouse sources said he was suffering Tuesday morning from "stress."
His testimony on the witness stand was highlighted by his shaky voice and pale face.
U.S. Judge Sara Lioi dismissed the jury shortly after 11 a.m. and cancelled the rest of the day's proceedings. She indicated then that the Dimora trial would resume Wednesday morning at 8:15 a.m.
Kelley's condition was not immediately known, nor was it revealed if he was admitted to the hospital, or treated and released.
