CLEVELAND -- Employee discipline has increased under the new county government in Cleveland put in place after a wide-ranging corruption investigation.

The Plain Dealer reports Cuyahoga County Executive Ed FitzGerald fired or suspended 115 employees in a half-dozen departments last year. That's more than double the 56 workers in those same offices who were fired or suspended without pay in 2010.

The Plain Dealer reports the county has been training supervisors to more tightly enforce rules.

In early 2011, FitzGerald and a county council took over from the previous three-commissioner government in Ohio's most populous county. Voters approved the change in the wake of the scandal.

Former commissioner Jimmy Dimora is currently on trial in Akron on charges alleging he took bribes in return for steering contracts and jobs.
