AKRON -- A federal judge in Ohio has delayed Wednesday's start of the corruption trial of a former county commissioner pending a challenge to an indictment.

Read the judge's order

Judge Sara Lioi in Akron ruled Monday that the start of the trial of former Cuyahoga County Commissioner Jimmy Dimora will be delayed until Jan. 27. A jury was selected last week.

Dimora's attorneys are challenging the first of two corruption indictments against him. He claims two indictments amount to double jeopardy, or being prosecuted twice for the same crime.

Dimora wants the federal appeals court in Cincinnati to halt his trial on the first indictment while it considers the issue.

Prosecutors deny Dimora is facing double jeopardy.

Dimora has pleaded not guilty to taking bribes in return for steering contracts and hiring cronies.
