AKRON -- Former Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Judge Bridget McCafferty has been sentenced to 14 months in prison.
Federal Judge Sara Lioi sentenced McCafferty Tuesday afternoon in Akron.
McCafferty had been convicted of telling 10 separate lies to FBI agents during an interview as part of the Cuyahoga County corruption investigation. Prosecutors say McCafferty lied to protect her political bosses, Frank Russo and Jimmy Dimora.
Russo testified against McCafferty at the trial.
Judge Lioi sentenced McCafferty to 14 months on each count, but ordered the sentence be served concurrently. She also ordered McCafferty pay $400.
Prosecutors had asked for a 21-month sentence. McCafferty's lawyer had sought probation. Prosecutors had argued the sentence had to be tough enough to restore faith in the justice system.
McCafferty's lawyer called this a single blemish in an otherwise exemplary life.
