AKRON -- Convicted former Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Judge Bridget McCafferty has asked U.S. District Court Judge Sara Lioi to delay her sentencing scheduled for Monday.

The motion, filed in federal court late Thursday, asks Lioi to delay sentencing until after McCafferty's appeal of her conviction earlier this year is ruled upon.

In addition, if Lioi does not grant that request, McCafferty asks that Lioi postpone having her sentence take effect immediately because of her mother's terminal illness.

A doctor's letter filed with the motion shows that McCafferty's mother was admitted into a hospice care facility on June 9 in the end stages of Alzheimer's disease.

McCafferty was convicted on March 25 on 10 counts of lying to the FBI and faces up to five years on each count.

As of early afternoon Friday, she is still scheduled to be sentenced at 10 a.m. Monday in U.S. District Court in Akron.
