AKRON -- A jury convicted Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court Judge Steven Terry on Monday.  The jury returned its decision after deliberating part of Friday afternoon and again on Monday.

The jury convicted Terry on three of five counts.

Terry, 53, was charged with five counts of mail fraud and conspiracy to commit mail fraud on Sept. 15.

He had been on administrative leave from the bench.  However, following the verdict, Terry announced he was resigning effective immediately and said he respected the decision of the court.

Sentencing is set for September.

Terry was accused of accepting gifts and bribes from then-Cuyahoga County Auditor Frank Russo in exchange for favorable court rulings.

Russo testified in the trial. Terry also took the stand in his own defense.

The FBI presented wiretapped phone conversations between Russo and Terry as part of the prosecution's case.
