AKRON -- It only took a day to pick a jury in the public corruption trial of Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Judge Steven Terry.
Terry rejected a plea deal and decided to take his chances with a jury in a trial that starts Monday.
He faces five criminal charges, including accusations that he did a favor for Joe O'Malley, a friend of former Cuyahoga County Auditor Frank Russo who was representing a couple in a foreclsoure case.
Federal prosecutors say that, at Russo's request, Terry gave an unfair advantage to the couple.
Terry denies the allegations, but prosecutors say he granted the favor in exchange for Russo's campaign help.
Russo is expected to testify in the trial as he did in the trial of former Common Pleas Judge Bridget McCafferty. A jury convicted her of lying to the FBI and she is scheduled to be sentenced July 11.
Terry is on leave pending the outcome of the case.
