AKRON -- The verdict was guilty in the federal trial of attorney William Mitchell when the jury returned to the courtroom Friday.
Mitchell, 63, was a partner in a Northeast Ohio law firm that controlled V.A.S. Enterprises, an appraisal company that gave kickbacks to then-auditor Frank Russo to get Cuyahoga County contracts from his office.
His sentencing is set for June 13.
Russo did not testify in the trial but two of Mitchell's former law partners, Bruce Zaccagnini and Timothy Armstrong, did testify.
Zaccagnini and Armstrong already pleaded guilty and are now in prison.
The fourth partner, Louis Damiani, originally set up the entire scheme but died in 2006.
