WASHINGTON  --  The White House says Brunei's head of state will meet with President Barack Obama next week.

Brunei's Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah  will be at the White House on Tuesday to discuss Asia issues and preparations for the East Asia Summit and U.S.-ASEAN Summit in October.

Obama has previously attended those summits. This year, it's taking place in Brunei's capital. The tiny, oil-rich nation sits on Borneo island, bordered by Malaysia.

The two leaders will also discuss ways to move forward on the Trans-Pacific Partnership, a region-wide free trade pact that Washington is pushing.

The White House says the sultan's visit reflects Obama's strategic focus on Asia.
