NEWTOWN, Conn. -- Police officers from other communities are on duty today in Newtown, Connecticut, so that Newtown officers can have Christmas Day off.

One police detective from Greenwich, Connecticut who's working a half-day shift in Newtown says, "It's a nice thing that they can use us this way."

Eleven days after the shootings that left 20 children and six adults dead at an elementary school, Newtown continues to receive displays of support and sympathy from around the country.

Visitors continued to arrive at town hall on Christmas Eve bringing cards, handmade snowflakes and other tributes to the victims of the shooting.

Several hundred people attended Christmas Eve services at a church less than two miles from Sandy Hook Elementary. The service had a celebratory tone, with just a few vague references to the shooting.
