Tropical Storm Olivia on 10/7/12
MIAMI - Forecasters say Tropical Storm Olivia is continuing to strengthen over open waters in the eastern Pacific but poses no threat to land.
The U.S. National Hurricane Center in Miami said at 5 a.m. EDT Sunday that Olivia was about 930 miles (1495 kilometers) southwest of the southern tip of Mexico's Baja California peninsula. Maximum sustained winds were at 60 mph (95 kph), and it was moving west-northwest at 8 mph (13 kph).
Olivia is expected to make a northwest turn later Sunday. Forecasters say it could become a hurricane sometime during the next day or two.
The eastern Pacific hurricane season ends Nov. 30.
