Cleveland: Calif. bomb suspect in court Wednesday

CLEVELAND---The homeless man suspected of bombing a synagogue in Santa Monica, California April 7 faces a federal judge in Cleveland Wednesday afternoon.

Ron Hirsch, 60, was arrested in Cleveland Heights Monday night and taken into custody by the Cleveland FBI around 3 p.m. Tuesday.

Hirsch is wanted for an explosion that shattered windows and forced the evacuation of 100 neighbors.  No one was injured in the blast.

Federal authorities from California are in Cleveland to bring Hirsch back to California to face charges. They have a warrant for his arrest on unlawful flight from prosecution.

A witness says Hirsch was taken into custody at the Agudah Iisrael study center in Cleveland Heights. A witness said he turned up at the center looking for a place to stay.

In California, he is known to frequent Jewish community centers seeking charity. 

Hirsch was arrested without a struggle.

Some people became suspicius because he wasn't dressed likemost people who study there.

Then someone apparantely thought he looked like the same man wanted for the bombing. A rabbi notiifed police.

Hirsch identified himself to police and he was quickly taken into custody.
