CLEVELAND -- Cleveland Clinic Sports Medicine specialist Dr. Laura Goldberg is the medical director for the Cleveland Marathon.
The Cleveland Clinic provides emergency room physicians, family practitioners, orthopedic surgeons, sports medicine specialists and trauma experts on race day.
Goldberg says it's like an emergency room in the field.
Typically, they're ready for blisters, falls, pulled muscles, dehydration and other ailments common to runners, but they're also trained for worse.
"We are all trained for this and we have a plan in place," Dr. Goldberg says.
In the next few weeks, she'll be reviewing that plan with her team and learning from Boston but, overall, she believes that the mass casualty plan they've had in placed worked well in Boston.
