There is a psychological side to overeating and psychologist Martin Deschner, Ph.D., says there's a prototype for those at risk.
Stress is the trigger and those with a nurturing personality are known to internalize stress.
"They are peacemakers, you can think of it like that," Deschner says.
"They don't like to be argumentative very often. Handling situations assertively is often not their strong suit. These people are giving every which way, but they are not taking care of themselves and the only way that they can find to do that many times is to eat.
He adds that undiagnosed depression can also be a factor. Studies show depression increases the risk of obesity 58 percent.
