Akron: 2nd annual Back-to-School 'Summit for Kids'

AKRON -- The 2nd annual 'Summit for Kids' will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the John S. Knight Center at 77 E. Mill Street downtown.

The Summit will offer free dental exams for kids ages 3-6, free immunizations, free back-to-school physicals, free backpacks filled with school supplies and more.

Families are invited to visit information booths, enjoy live entertainment and meet-and-greet with Spider Man from Marvel Entertainment, Walkaround Zoe from Sesame Street, Scooby-Doo & Shaggy from Kids WB, Ronald McDonald and The University of Akron's Zippy.

Summit County Juvenile Court's "Operation Fresh Start" program will also take place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The program provides juveniles with the opportunity to have their court records expunged or have their "Failure to Send/Truancy Warrant" documentation recalled before the school year begins.

The activity booths include children's fingerprinting, medical information and testing from the Summit County Health District, Akron Children's Hospital, the University of Akron, Akron Children's Hospital Sports Medicine, Akron Children's Hospital School Health Services, Summa and McDonald's & University Hospitals.
