  • WESTLAKE --Winter weather is tough on the skin, especially your face. If you are looking for a way to improve it, and keep it hydrated, there is a new kind of treatment available in Northeast Ohio.

It's called the HydraFacial, and it is offered at the Ohio Clinic for Aesthetic and Plastic Surgery.

The HydraFacial is actually 3 different treatments in one, with no downtime for recovery.

"If you are looking for a treatment that is thoroughly going to cleanse your skin, brighten your complexion and hydrate you; this is the treatment for you," says Shari Porach a Paramedical Aesthetician who performs the treatment at the Ohio Clinic for Aesthetic and Plastic Surgery.

Shari took us through each of the steps involved.  Each step involves a special wand that works to cleanse, exfoliate, extract and hydrate using vacuum technology.

The first step is cleansing and exfoliation. As the wand works on the skin, it also infuses an antioxidant solution with mild lactic acid. Dead skin cells are removed to reveal healthy new skin. Step 2 is the acid peel.

A mild combination of glycolic and salicylic acid is applied to the skin. This helps loosen dirt and debris from pores without irritation. The wand is also used to suction out debris from clogged pores in a pain-free procedure. And the final step is hydration.

Antioxidants and hyaluronic acid are infused into the skin to nourish and protect. The entire process takes about 45 minutes total. Clients leave with a healthy glow, but absolutely no downtime.

Rachel Adams had her first HydraFacial during our visit. Oily skin and rosacea make her a perfect candidate. "You see immediate results," Adams remarked.

Post-care includes using mild cleansers for a few days. Clients are also encouraged to use a minimum of SPF 30 sunscreen, as well as taking special care to avoid the sun for a few days. But there is no peeling, and lasting redness. Clients can apply make-up right away.

"The neat thing about the HydraFacial is that it is a non-surgical, short intervention, no downtime procedure that can make you look better. It's a super moisturizer. It really moisturizes your skin far beyond any soap or moisturizer can. It really penetrates deep into the skin. And it gives you several weeks of looking super," says board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Michael Wojtanowski.

The HydraFacial is appropriate for many skin types and concerns including acne, rosacea, fine lines and pigmentation. It costs a bit more than a standard facial, but results can last for up to 3 or 4 weeks.
