15 Ohio schools receive National Blue Ribbon status

Fifteen schools in Ohio have been recognized as 2013 National Blue Ribbon Schools by the U.S. Secretary of Education. 

The Blue Ribbon Schools are selected based on overall academic excellence and their progress in improving student academic achievement. 

A total of 236 public and 50 private schools nationwide will be honored in a recognition ceremony in November in Washington, D.C.

"Excellence in education matters and we should honor the schools that are leading the way to prepare students for success in college and careers," said Secretary Duncan. "National Blue Ribbon schools represent examples of educational excellence, and their work reflects the belief that every child in America deserves a world-class education."   

To select National Blue Ribbon Schools the Department of Education requested nominations from the top education official in every state.



The recognized schools from Ohio are:


1. Akron, Akron Early College High School

2. Cuyahoga Heights, Cuyahoga Heights High School

3. Aurora, Harmon Middle School

4. Parma Heights, Incarnate Word Academy

5. Centerville, Incarnation Catholic School

6. Pleasant Hill, Newton Elementary School

7. Solon, Orchard Middle School

8. Loveland, St. Margaret of York School

9. Westerville, St. Paul The Apostle Catholic School

10. Commercial Point, Scioto Elementary School

11. New Middletown, Springfield Elementary School

12. Waterville, Waterville Primary School

13. Massillon, Watson Elementary School

14. Chesterland, West Geauga High School

15.   Wheelersburg, Wheelersburg Elementary School
