Battle for playoffs continues, Indians are 'hot'

Over in the American League, Tampa Bay, Cleveland and Texas are in the thick of the competition for wild-card berths, while Kansas City, New York and Baltimore are still mathematically alive.

Tampa Bay, on a 4-game winning streak, plays in New York with the Yankees a distant 4 games out. Cleveland hosts the Chicago White Sox.

The Indians are hot with 8 wins in the last 10 games. They've also won their last four. Baltimore tries to keep its' playoff hopes alive at home against Toronto.

Texas is home to Houston, while Kansas City plays at Seattle. Detroit, eyeing the American League Central title, visits Minnesota.

The Tigers begin the day with a 4 ½ game lead over Cleveland in the division.

Also tonight, Atlanta tunes up for the playoffs with a home game against Milwaukee. Boston also gears up for the postseason on the road at Colorado.

The American League West champion Oakland A's visit the L.A. Angels. Rounding out the schedule, the NL West-champion Dodgers play at San Francisco, Philadelphia visits Miami, and San Diego hosts Arizona.

Now that Pittsburgh and Cincinnati are in the postseason, the battle for the National League Central Division title is on.

St. Louis has a 2-game lead over both the Pirates and Reds and hosts Washington again tonight. The Nationals were eliminated from the postseason with a loss last night. The Reds host the New York Mets, while the Pirates play the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley.
