CLEVELAND -- NBC News is reporting that prosecutors are closer than ever to a plea deal with Ariel Castro. That deal, which he is currently expected to accept, is life without parole plus 1,000 years.

Sources involved in the investigation tell NBC NEWS that the terms of the deal are likely to become public at tomorrow's 10 a.m. court hearing.

The deal would allow Castro to avoid the death penalty and spare his three victims the trauma of a long trial.

Earlier, the Investigator Tom Meyer confirmed that a plea deal had been offered in the case against Ariel Castro and that he is due in court Friday.

Castro is said to be considering the deal but nothing has been finalized.

Lawyers are calling Friday's court appearance a final pre-trial hearing but at the conclusion of the previous pre-trial no additional court date was scheduled before the start of the August trial.

Castro is facing 977 criminal counts including kidnapping, rape and aggravated murder.

If the plea deal is accepted, Castro is expected to appear in court tomorrow morning to formally accept the deal.

The plea deal would mean that Castro would not face the death penalty.

Castro was initially arrested in May after Amanda Berry, Gina DeJesus and Michelle Knight escaped years of captivity inside a home on Seymour Avenue.
