MEDINA -- The Medina Highway Patrol Post is investigating a serious injury crash that occurred just after 9 p.m. Monday.

The crash occured on Grafton Road, just west of Marks Road, in Liverpool Township.

Troopers say a 2007 Hyundai Elantra, driven by Alexander J. Stipek, 17, of Olmsted Township, was going eastbound on Grafton Road attempting to pass a 1956 Chevy driven by John A. Lopiccolo Sr., 65, of Brunswick, who was also traveling eastbound.

The area the pass occurred was over a double yellow line and the crest of a hill.

While passing, the 2007 Hyundai Elantra reached the crest where it struck a westbound 1986 Chevrolet pickup truck, driven by Richard A. Sasack, 23, of Akins Road in North Royalton.

Lopiccolo Sr. received minor injuries and was treated at the scene and released. Sasack was taken to Southwest General Hospital with moderate injuries.

Also in the Hyundai Elantra were four other occupants: Chase Dupratt, 18; Danny A. Cuellar, 17; Ryan Hoffer, 16; and Spencer McCoy, 17.

All are from Olmsted Falls and all are students who attend Olmsted Falls High School.

They were all taken to MetroHealth Medical center in Cleveland with serious injuries with the exception of Spencer McCoy, who only suffered minor injuries.
