TOLEDO, Ohio -- An Ohio man accused of stuffing six bulldog-mix puppies into a suitcase and leaving them next to a trash bin is due to face a judge.
Howard Davis is scheduled to appear at a preliminary hearing in a Toledo courtroom Friday.
Passers-by found the suitcase containing the three female and three male puppies last week.
Authorities say a luggage tag with Davis' contact information on the suitcase led to Davis. He's now charged with abandoning animals and could face jail time or a fine if he's convicted.
The Toledo Area Humane Society says the 4-week-old pups appear to be fine.
They say they've gotten calls from hundreds of people who want to take in the dogs. But it will be a few weeks before the pups are ready for adoption.
