CLEVELAND -- Jeremy Pechanec was murdered in Perk Park in February, 2009. The horrible incident made headlines but it also changed Albert Hopkins' life forever.
"If it wasn't for Lifebanc, I wouldn't be here today. They found me a heart, I know where the heart comes from, I've met the boy's parents," Albert says.
Erin and Andrew Ehrbar were killed in a devastating car accident in Medina. Thanks to organ donation, they saved three lives and gave eyesight to four others. Knowing that brings their mother comfort.
"We've never met them but we've heard from them through letters about how healthy they are today and that gives me such peace and desire to want to tell other people that, if you ever have the unfortunate opportunity to be an organ donor, to say yes," says Laura Ehrbar Depeiro.
Demetrius Hewlin decided to become an organ donor at age 13. He was one of three killed in the Chardon High School shootings in February 2012. His choice to help others makes his mother proud.
"Demetrius' life changed nine lives, instead of just eight. He gave up seven organs, his eyes, his tissues," says his mother, Phyllis Ferguson.
Three stories of how organ donation impacted lives and how each of these people are hoping their stories encourage others.
