MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

BSN preferred; graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing required. If a diploma or Associates Degree of Nursing, a BSN will be required within 5 years of hire date.

Required Length and Type of Experience

At least 1 year current clinical experience as a registered nurse in an acute medical-surgical setting required. New RN grads will only be considered if currently employed as a LPN with Cleveland Clinic Home Care.

Required Licensure, Certification or Registry

Current licensure as a RN in the State of Ohio, CPR Certification, Valid Ohio Driver’s license upon hire; per policy 8-175 thereafter. Proof of automobile insurance coverage with $100,000/$300,000 coverage, upon hire; per policy 8-175 thereafter.

Required Physical and Environmental Demands

Must be ambulatory and able to drive to patients’ homes, able to climb stairs, pull, push, and facilitate movement of the patient. Must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds. Must be able to read, write and communicate with patients .Must have correctable vision and correctable hearing to be able to hear normal conversations. Must be able to work in settings with infectious diseases. Must present a professional appearance at all times and attend staff and agency meetings, as requested.

Performs diagnostic sonographic imaging through the application of non-ionizing, high-frequency sound-waves for patients of all ages as directed by physicians. Maintains patient safety.Performs ultrasound studies (i.e. obstetrical, GYN, abdominal, retro peritoneal, small parts, pediatric, and vascular). Consults with referring physician regarding patients' medical history and selection of appropriate procedures and equipment required for proper diagnosis; reviews charts, previous reports and requisition prior to the exam. Educate patients regarding procedures, equipment and exam to ensure understanding and cooperation. Ensure patients' comfort and safety during and after the exam. May assist with scheduling of patients. Schedules all emergency patients for diagnostic ultrasound procedures. Monitors all appointments scheduled for ultrasound examinations; performs preliminary research on patient when preparations are not provided; determines priority of patients based on the daily schedules. Acquires, archives, transmits and prints images via PACS - when applicable, completes after hours transmission of images and appropriate paperwork - immediately reports any malfunctions to help desk and PACS Administrator. Knowledgeable in billing via RIS. Performs checks on ultrasound equipment to assure proper function of equipment and notifies clinical engineering of any equipment malfunctions. Ensures exam rooms are adequately supplied with linen and related medical supplies.Assists with clinical instruction of ultrasound students and residents; assists with in-service education of staff members. Assists with orienting new employees to the equipment, department procedures and scanning protocols; provides demonstration of ultrasound equipment for staff and visitors. May be required to rotate through all diagnostic imaging modalities, sites and/or locations.Assists in new investigative techniques, procedures and equipment; maintains state-of-the-art knowledge in the field through self-motivated education and attendance of appropriate conferences and symposiums. RDMS must be maintained and in good standing. Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION: Graduate of an accredited school in Diagnostic Medical Sonography and in good standing.

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION: Must be a Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer, RDMS, through the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonographers within one year of hire. Certification within Abdominal (RDMS, AB) and OB/GYN (RDMS, OB/GYN) must be obtained within one year of hire. Additional certification within Vascular (RDMS, VT) preferred. CPR certification required.

COMPLEXITY OF WORK: Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgement and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

Identifies malfunctioning ambulatory equipment and reports to appropriate department for repair or replacement. Rounding throughout the hospital environment for departmental equipment and delivering to the appropriate stagging area. Performs environmental/safety checks and documents as required. Experience: After selection and placement, requires three months on-the-job training and orientation to learn multiple hospital and clinic locations, special procedures and patient emergency and safety procedures, proper body mechanics necessary to safely move patients.

Provides direct nursing care in accordance with established policies, procedures and protocols of the healthcare organization.Implements and monitors patient care plans. Monitors, records and communicates patient condition as appropriate. Monitors and documents patient's condition and effectiveness and timeliness of care and/or interventions; evaluates, updates and revises plan of care to facilitate achievement of planned and expected outcomes. Serves as a primary coordinator of all disciplines for well-coordinated patient care. Administers prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with approved nursing protocol. Notes and carries out physician and nursing orders.Assesses and coordinates patient's discharge planning needs with members of the healthcare team. Assesses educational needs of the patient and significant others considering cultural issues and other special concerns. Provides teaching and educational material as appropriate. Validates and documents patient and family understanding of teaching. Maintains professional growth and development through ongoing formal and informal education and clinical nursing study. EDUCATION: Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing. BSN preferred.

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION: Current state licensure as Registered Nurse (RN). Proof of Basic Life Support (BLS) certification must be presented upon hire. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification in Critical Care or must obtain same within first year of employment.

COMPLEXITY OF WORK: Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action. Vascular Access Registered Nurse (VARN) program attendance required and obtains either a Certified Registered Nurse Infusion (CRNI) or Vascular Access Board Certified (VA-BC) certification within a year in Peripherally Inserted Central Catheter (PICC) areas.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE: Minimum one year acute care RN experience in a hospital setting required for acute care settings. Minimum one year acute care RN experience and/or skilled nursing facility (SNF) experience required for SNF care settings. Minimum one year acute care RN experience and/or rehab experience required for rehab care settings. Minimum one year acute care RN experience and/or Emergency Department (ED) experience required for ED settings.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patient, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination. Requires standing and walking for extended periods of time. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range. Requires working under stressful conditions and irregular hours. Exposure to communal diseases and/or body fluids. Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work. PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT: Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.

Builds case carts ensuring adherence to procedures. Dispatches case carts to ensure they are available to surgical/clinical procedures.Performs record keeping functions, e.g. processing, sterilization, quality assurance, etc.Performs ordering, stocking and inventory control functions. Maintains adequate levels, inventories, and orders supplies; stock supplies..Participates in in-service education.Performs other duties as assigned. Other duties as assigned.
