CLEVELAND - Parts of western Ohio are beginning to see abnormally dry conditions during the first week of September.

The latest drought monitor from the National Drought Mitigation Center is showing drier than normal conditions in Mercer, Darke and Shelby counties in western Ohio.

Elsewhere in Ohio, conditions remain near normal levels as they have for the entire summer.

Across the nation, severe drought remains in a large part of the western United States with the worst areas running from Nebraska, eastern Colorado to New Mexico.

Parts of Idaho, Oregon and Nevada are also seeing much drier than normal conditions.

This latest drought monitor was taken from readings of September 3, 2013.
