The Cleveland Cavaliers have released Byron Scott as head coach of the Cavaliers.  He was let go with one year remaining on his contract.

Scott spent three seasons with the Cavaliers and was the 18th head coach for the Cavaliers since the franchise was formed in 1970.

Scott was named coach in 2010 replacing Mike Brown. In his three seasons with the Cavs he was 64-166.

Before joining the Cavaliers Scott coached the New Orleans Hornets from 2003 until 2009. He was NBA Coach of the Year in 2008. Scott began his head coaching career in New Jersey in 2000 where he led the Nets to some of their best seasons in franchise history. Under Scott the Nets twice won the Eastern Conference title and played in the NBA Finals in 2002 and 2003.

Scott played 14 seasons in the NBA for the Los Angeles Lakers, Indiana Pacers and Vancouver Grizzlies, winning three NBA Championships with the Lakers in 1985, 87 and 88.
