CLEVELAND -- Major sponsorships have been announced for next year's Gay Games to be held in Cleveland.
The Cleveland Foundation has awarded a $250,000 grant that makes it the top sponsor of the Games. The sponsorship means the Games' official name will be the 2014 Gay Games presented by the Cleveland Foundation. It is the first presenting sponsorship in the 31-history of the competition.
Also today, Ernst & Young LLP announced it has also signed on as a national sponsor of the Games with a $100,000 donation.
The Games will be held Aug. 9-16, 2014. The competition will bring 30,000 visitors to the area including 11,000 participants competing in 35 events. The Games are expected to generate $58 million for Northeast Ohio.
Quicken Loans Arena will host the opening ceremony. The following have also been announced as event sites:
- New Cleveland Convention Center: volley, badminton
- CSU: swimming, basketball
- CWRU: water polo, wrestling, squash
- Lake Erie: open water swim
- University of Akron: track and field
- City of Akron: marathon
- Firestone Stadium: softball
