HEBRON, Ky. -- Puppet lovers from around the country are in northern Kentucky this week to perform and hone their craft at an annual convention for ventriloquists.

Organizers say the four-day Vent Haven Convention has more than 600 attendees this year, the most in the gathering's nearly four-decade history.

Events include instructional seminars, vendor markets and appearances by celebrity ventriloquists like Jeff Dunham and Terry Fator.

The convention is sponsored by the Vent Haven ventriloquism museum in Fort Mitchell, just south of Cincinnati.

Garrett Chapin, an 11-year-old who traveled from Elyria, Ohio, says he was inspired to take up the craft after seeing Jeff Dunham on TV.

Chapin says he is working on his act and hopes to enter the youth open mic contest at next year's convention.
